Vincent Rochette at Domaine Roche-Audran, situated at Buisson, is in his early 30's and is the type of man that we like to deal with. Totally passionate about his product, wine in general and always trying to "push the envelope" in terms of experimentation. This special cuvée Visan is extremely well crafted and represents excellent value for money. The best of his Grenache goes into this wine and comes from the rather amusingly named plot of vines called Dodo - which is perched high on a hill in Visan.

The colour is very dense - an almost opaque, blackish purple. The bouquet is bursting with morello cherry and damsons.The tannins are still firm and there is a vibrant acidity which will repay some cellaring in the medium term. Vincent gives his Père Mayeux some time in barrel so there is some additional structure here to boot. The wine is tremendously long in the mouth and full of a rich spicey velour with ultra ripe brambly fruits. This wine, made in relatively small quantities from the stunning 2003 vintage, is well crafted and honed. It is a totally classic, rich and hearty red which will improve over the next 5 or so years.
