Hermitage - 2000 - Domaine Bernard Faurie

Fat and ripe with a mass of succulent fruit but with plenty of life left.

Bernard Faurie has been building up his vineyard holdings since the early 1980's and now has nearly two hectares in Les Greffieux and Le Méal having started with only half a hectare. His present cellar also serves as a general storage area not only for the winery but for his family as well and a tasting here can be quite alarming as Bernard leaps over old bikes and other household paraphenalia in order to reach a specific barrel. A new cellar is being built.

Bernard Faurie is a very serious producer of Hermitage and his 2000 is typical of many of the wines from that vintage - big, succulent, juicy and ripe with a black currant fruit threaded through with traces of minerals. Lots of concentrated fruit with reasonable grip. A wine that can be drunk now or left for another five or so years.
