Côte Rôtie - 2000 - Domaine des Rosiers

Perfectly approachable with a pure, ripe fruit and very soft tannins.

Louis Drevon has 7 hectares of prime-site Côte Rôtie split up in to 27 little parcels of vines on the steep escarpment above Ampuis. He uses 3% Viognier with his Syrah to give his wines that added freshness, and the sheer complexity and profondity of the Drevon Côte Rôties has attracted considerable attention in the past few years, culminating in an excellent recent revue in the ’Wine Advocate’.

Drevon’s wines are non-filtered and super-intense and can be drunk in their youth but will also keep for many years.

The 2000 vintage is very approachable with its open, exotic and ripe fruit and lower tannin levels. Don’t think for one moment that this is not a structured wine with little keeping potential. 2000 was a good year but was somewhat over-shadowed by the very grand 1999 and the very good 2002 vintages.
