The Chicotot's "les Vaucrains" is one of the village's bench-mark wines. The 2005 is remarkable in every way - rich, very concentrated and very powerful. Finishes so long. An absolute gem! This 1er Cru is amongst the pinnacle of Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru terroirs. The Vaucrains 2005 has amazing concentration and is so intense powerful and long on the palate. It is jam-packed with ripe raspeberry fruit enveloped in a silk purse. This is a wine for the long haul. Drink 2010 to 2020.

A visit to the cellars of Georges and Pascal Chicotot is never short. In fact, it's best done at the back end of the day when you have more time! They are such a lovely couple with an impish sense of humour and a passion for what they do. When it comes to wine making, they split the vineyards up between themselves and run an annual competition as to who can make the best wine! For the 2005 offer (and quite by chance) we have chosen one wine from Pascal (the sublime Plante au Baron) and the other from Georges (the stunning Vaucrains). Meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of their separate terroirs make this one of the finest estates in Nuits.

This estate was a very exciting find for us in early 2005 after tasting much that was thin and over-produced in the region. Pascale, who evidently wears the trousers, together with her husband Georges , who creates the impression of being more down trodden than he actually is, produce Nuits wines that are rich and polished with good structures yet without losing the inherent velvety, raspberry and wild strawberry fruit that makes great Burgundy so alluring.
Eevery year both husband and wife vie with eachother to see who can make the better wine. In reality it seems they both succeed!
