Bonnes Mares - 2004 - Domaine Hudelot Baillet

The 2004 Bonne Mares from Dominique le Guen coats the mouth with a black cherry fruitiness - ripe and rounded with a big complex finish. It is pretty wonderful now but give it another five years and it will be even better.

A recent exploratory trip around the Côte de Nuits a couple of years ago turned up this gem of a domaine, situated in the heart of the village of Chambolle. Joël Hudelot’s son-in-law, Dominique le Guen (an ex-French air force engineer) took over the wine-making here about six years’ ago and has lifted the estate's reputation into the first division in the past couple of years. They are strong believers in following an eco-friendly viticultural route and have been very successful in redeveloping the micro-organic structure of the soil. Working with sensibly low yields and meticulous attention to detail in the chais, has resulted in some superb wines.
