Corton Charlemagne - 2002 - Domaine Bonneau du Martray

Outstanding vintage for a great wine. The year and the wine were made for eachother. The yields were low a just 39.5 hectolitres per hectare. The palate is luscious with a mineral complexity and creamy finish. It is intense and delicious and will need 4 more years before it should begin to be examined and then it should last until 2015.

Without doubt one of Burgundy's greatest white wines. Capable of ageing for up to 10 or more years this wine usually does not start to express its rich complexities until it is at least 5 or 6 years old.

Domaine Bonneau du Martray, on the hillside of the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, is a continuous vineyard of 27 acres, unusual in Burgundy. The property has been in family ownership for more than two centuries and their meticulous care and attention in the vineyards and winery are evident in the superlative quality of their produce. The outstanding quality of the terroir allows this famous property to produce two of Burgundy's finest wines, the red Corton and the white Corton-Charlemagne.

Today Jean-Charles le Bault de la Morinière is winemaker as well as steward of the domaine.
