The rich and and full 2004 Mercurey, Les Ormeaux has an intensity of fruit with very ripe,meaty tannins and a substantial finish. Drink 2007 to 2009.

Jean Maréchal and Marc Bovagne (Jean's son-in-law) have continued the successes that this 10 hectare estate enjoyed in the early 1990's. Both are totally dedicated and passionate about what they produce and are making some profound, brilliantly coloured and complex Pinot Noir which always have overtones of cherries and raspberries. The Maurice Chevalier look-a-like, Jean, maintains one of the most immaculate wineries and barrel-cellars in Burgundy and this attention to detail is clearly reflected in the quality of the wines.

The fermentation is pretty long (12-18 days) and temperature controlled, and Domaine Marechal is one of the few wineries still to tread the grapes by foot - three times per day during the fermentation period. All of this, coupled with 18 months maturation in oak (only 15% of which is new, to retain the character of the wine) add up to a long lived wine of great character.
