1er Cru Classé Sauternes

An early harvest (started on 28th August!) unheard of since 1883, and with a very pure botrytis, Guiraud 1996 is a complex and powerful wine built for many years to come. A dark yellow colour with bronze reflections. A sappy bouquet spicy, candied apricot, honeysuckle, white peach, fresh pineapple, followed by candied lemon and tea and with notes of roasted berries, vanilla. A rich texture but balanced by an excellent acidity. Not a heavyweight by any means. It has the freshness associated with a great botrytis.

This is one of the largest estates in Sauternes. With a surface area of 128ha, Château Guiraud is situated entirely in the commune of Sauternes of which 100ha are currently under production divided as follows: 85 ha for Sauternes and 15ha for dry white Bordeaux. The average yield is 12hl/ha. The maximum yield permitted for the Sauternes appellation is 25hl/ha. A minimum potential of 20% alcohol is required to start the harvest.

In spite of an usually high proportion of Sauvignon Guiraud manages to achieve great richness and fullness of body.
