Sauternes (2nd Wine of Château de Malle)

A fresh, intense honeyed Sauternes perfect for drinking now made from younger vines.

This is the 2nd wine of the well-known and highly regarded Sauternes estate of Château de Malle situated between the communes of Preignac and Fargues. The estate compriese just 28 hectares of Sauternes and the average age of the vines is 30 to 40 years old. The grapes are, quite naturally, hand-picked and as many as 5 passes can be made through the vineyards over several days to ensure that the noble-rot effected grapes are only picked at the moment they are perfectly 'rôti' (literally translates as roasted). The production of Sauternes is clearly a highly labour-intensive exercise.

The Château de Sainte- Hélène comes from the younger vines of 10 to 15 years which will, when more mature, be used to make the grand vin. The harvest averages about 14 hectolitres per hectare.

69% Semillon, 28% Sauvignon and 3% Muscadelle
