The second wine of Château Pontet-Canet. The 2003 second wine exhibits some of the elegance of the Grand Vin yet is more approachable at an earlier stage due to the use of the estate's young vines. It still possesses that fine pencil-lead Pauillac stamp combined with the very ripe blackcurranty fruit so prevalent in many 2003s. Drink 2006 to 2010.

The extraordinary effort that Alfred Tesseron has made at Pontet-Canet has been clearly rewarded by the remarkable press that these wines have had in the past few years. Numerous ’Bordeaux-watchers’ are now comparing Pontet-Canet to a ‘super-second.’ Bordering the vineyards of Lafite and Mouton, there are just under 80 hectares under vine and the style of Pontet today has little to do with the austere wines that were the property’s trade-mark until the early 1990’s. The aromas show off masses of spicy black berry overtones whilst the palate is characterised by an unusual purity of fruit which is held together by super-fine tannins. The 1995 vintage is full of fruit with a generous lashing of softenting tannins and a complex, lingering finish. Cabernet Sauvignon 65% Merlot 30% Cabernet Franc 5%
