When he conquered Aquitane in 769, Charlemagne had a fortified camp built on the Fronsac Tertre (hill) and set up his own camp on the opposite hill, whence comes the name 'Carles.' Today's château was bulit in the 15th and 16th centuaries and is a magnificent structure and one of the finest residences in the region.

20 hectares are under vines which average about 35 years old grown on clay and limestone hillsides overlooking the Isle valley. 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec.

And the result? Concentrated and elegant with a fine fruitness and very approachable, soft tannins.
