Bernard Magrez has shown great determination in his ambition to elevate this porperty to superstar status and the 2003 follows on from a brilliant 2001. An extremely seductive and sensual wine with a liquorice and cassis bouquet. It has lusciously ripe velvety fruit with beautifully integrated tannins and great length. In 2003 certainly second only to Haut-Brion in the appellation. Drink 2009 to 2018.

The origin of the chateau's name stems from the fact that the property was once owned by Pope Clément V at the end of the 13th century. It was so named as Pape Clement when Bertrand de Goth, archbishop of Bordeaux, was elected Pope. This makes Pape Clement one of the oldest of all the growths in Bordeaux. The estate has been owned by the Montagne family since 1939 and is now run by Bernard Magrez.
