Château Haut-Gardère Blanc
Château Haut-Gardère Blanc - 1996 - Château Haut-Gardère
Ref: A046796
Pessac-Léognan

A lovely mature Graves with notes of grapefruit interspersed with ogen melon. The wine shows good weight and is well framed by perfectly integrated oak. A lovely balancing acidity has carried this wine through to perfect maturity. Drink now with chicken or fish dishes or possibly a tarte à l'oignon. It is made with 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. For drinking now.

Haut-Gardère shares the same soil make-up as some of Pessac-Léognan's greatest wines. You will see a griffon on the wine's label which commemorates one of the estate's previous owners, Count Griffon, who acted as the Vatican's Bordeaux consul during the middle of the 19th century. There is still a parcel of vines named the 'Pièce du Pape' from the time when a barrel of the estate's wine was sent to Rome after every harvest.

Château Haut Gardère had an excellent reputation for red wines right up to the Second World War but things declined swiftly afterwards with things reaching a nadir when the vines were replaced with conifers. But in 1979 the vines were replanted and the estate began to flourish once more, now under the baton of Jacques and Bernadette Lesineau. Today the estate is owned by Château de Fieuzal.

The château has made a white wine since 1987 which is fermented in new oak.

Today the estate is owned by Château de Fieuzal.
