Viña Valdivieso
Ref: A12169
This premium wine is made using the solera system whereby roughly 50% of each year's production is kept back to be blended with wine from the previous year. This system results in a wines which becomes more complex with each passing year. This shows intense spicy black fruit and cassis with hints of eucalyptus and smoky soft oak. It has a rich structure and depth with soft well rounded tannins.
The Valdivieso winery in Chile was founded in 1879 by a Spanish wine enthusiast called Alberto Valdivieso. It was he who took the decision to import fine vine stocks from the old world, and to replant them in the highly fertile earth of Chile. A new brand of sparkling wine was created bearing his name, still the most successful sparkling wine domestically.
In 1990, the company made the decision to diversify its portfolio, and began producing top quality still wines. Huge investment was made in a state of the art winery and vineyard expertise and in 1995 all the teams hard work began to pay off when Valdivieso won its first gold medal. To this day Valdivieso are still the most awarded Chilean winery in international competitions.
Despite these successes, the company strives to ensure their reputation is well deserved and have recently made key improvements to their winery, viticulture scheme and even the presentation of the bottle. Their mission is what it has always been: to make the very best use of the natural advantages that Chile provides, and to keep producing wine that can compete with the best from Chile and the rest of the world.
Most of the holdings are in Chile's leading terroirs. The estates are centred on the Lontue and Tutuven valleys, amongst the finest in Chile. In these valleys low humidity protects the stock from disease, and long daylight hours promote optimum photosynthesis with cool evenings allowing the plants to rest. This leads to a more gentle, drawn-out ripening process which encourages and enhances the development of aromas and mineral complexities within the grape, and therefore ultimately maximises the quality of the wine itself.
