Some people think that the first Moët was a Dutchman called Le Clerc who got very excited when the English tried to prevent Charles VII from entering his city. This 15th century firebrand led the mob at Rémois shouting 'Het moët zoo zijn' ('It must be so') and was known as Monsieur Moët ever afterward. More likely, though less romantic, is that Claude Moët established the company in 1743 after spending 27 years dealing in wines from the Champagne district.

Today the house of Moët & Chandon is owned by the luxury goods company LVMH and makes around 2 million cases of champagne.

The Brut Impérial NV is a balanced assemblage of the three vine varieties disclosing a succession of elegant and harmonious sensations, a fresh maturity, supple and refined lines, inspiring well-being and an emotion which is appreciated and shared. When young it is soft, light and fresh but with twelve months bottle age it picks up toasty aromas and develops a biscuitiness that is very appealing.
