Zweigelt - 2006 - Weingut Kaisergarten

From the Estate of Kaiser Garten (Emperor’s Garden) this dry red is made from the Blauer Zwiegelt Grape – unique to Austria and pioneered by Dr Zweigelt at the Klosterneuberg Research Station in 1922. This example is grown around the shores of the Neusiedersee National Park; the warm and protected climate of the Lake allows Kaiser Garten to produce a rich velvety red wine with very concentrated fruit flavours which marries well with light, soft tannins to give a long, lingering finish.

This wine is perfect served chilled for summer drinking, and marries very well with robust fish dishes - think salmon or mackerel, as well as grilled meats, game and spicy dishes.

The vines grow on rich, humous, black soils. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the must is then fermented in stainless steel. Following fermentation the wine is aged in a mix of stainless steel and oak barrels.
