Cabernet/Tempranillo, Back Block - 2005 - Thomson Estate

The blending of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo wines produces an elegant fruit driven wine with good acid balance making it an excellent food wine. The blend features a larger percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than that of Tempranillo; however, the Tempranillo fruit is prominent with a peppery, almost floral, perfumed bouquet with raspberry fruit.

Two hardy Scots, Walter and Jane Thomson sailed aboard the Prince George from Britain to Holdfast Bay, South Australia, in 1838. Enticed by the enlightened plans of the private company, which established the free settlement of Adelaide, they set about settling and parenting sixteen children. Records of the day list Walter as farmer and Vigneron.

The Family, descendents of Walter, have expanded the companies interest into winemaking and developing brands. Their investment in the Barossa Valley winery heralded this move into bottled wine. With consumers all over the world now enjoying the wine the company has grown considerably from it’s very humble beginnings.
