Chardonnay, Private Release - 2007 - Penfolds Wines

Rich, tangy Chardonnay, off-dry with a creaminess bodied winter red with plummy, ripe fruit and a touch of spice.

When one considers the size of this extraordinary operation, it is amazing to see just how well Penfolds wines score in blind and competitive tastings. This was proved in our recent selection blind tastings where half a dozen of their wines were clear winners in their categories. With the winemaking skills of John Duval and his team, Penfolds have forged a world -wide reputation for their outstanding range of red wines, and more recently some most impressive whites. Brilliantly flavoured reds are Duval's trademark, and he makes these to be true to style each year, not believing in the dominance of oak, preferring to use American oak which allows a wine's fruit flavours to dominate.

The Private Chardonnay is from 100% South Australia fruit, and has a melon and nectarine fruit flavour, is not bone dry, is finely balanced, with a rich, creamy finish. Its forthright fruitiness and richness could overpower lighter fish and chicken dishes, but would complement Cajun Chicken, or Chargrilled Tuna.
