New Argentian Mixed Case From New World Producer Of The Year

New Argentian Mixed Case From New World Producer Of The Year

Ref: A1213

Includes three bottles of Viognier from Bodegas Atamisque, Tupungatao, Uco Valley, Mendoza

Made in a really fresh, lean, aromatic style, unoaked with lovely notes of honeysuckle and stone fruits on the nose. An intense full palate with excellent balancing acidity. The grapes were hand harvested and then sorted first by bunches and then by individual berries and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks at 15°C. The wine spends a further 4 months in stainless steel tanks before being bottled. 13% abv 2016.

The Vineyard's philosophy is "We want to make great wines, we want to be successful, but we don't want to be big!" This is a small to medium sized producer that believes it must work within a pre-defined maximum scale in order to maintain the highest possible style and quality credentials. It's working, as testified by the 2015 Sommelier Wine Awards when no fewer than three of the wines (from the unoaked Serbal range) won gold medals and Atamisque was named New World Producer of the Year.

Three bottles of Pinot Noir, Bodegas Atamisque. Elegant and pale clear red in the glass, very fruity on the nose with overtones of cherries and strawberries. A soft and velvety palate with a good fruity finish.

Fermented in stainless steel at 25°C then spending 3 months in bottle prior to release, slowly but surely, Argentine Pinot Noir starts to be taken seriously, and not only those from Patagonia. This delicious offering from Atamisque's own Uco Valley vines fits the Serbal ethos perfectly - don't spoil a lovely young wine with oak! - it is all about fruit and pure varietal character. There is also an attractive plumpness and texture on the mid palate that you don't often see in wines in this price range. There's a way to go before the Argentines are up there with Marlborough, but this definitely kicks lower end Burgundy into the long grass. 2015 14% abv.
