Vin de Pays de l'Hérault

The Vin de Pays Guillaume Delcoeur which, despite its humble origins, has all the breeding and class of something with a more famous ‘appellation’, being superbly concentrated with a pervasive cocoa/coffee nose and a deep, smooth blackberry-fruit flavour.Grapes are: Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah.

Now being ably assisted by his daughter, Marie-Pierre, André Iché continues his remarkable run of award-winning wines from the Minervois region. The 45-hectare estate surrounds the sleepy hamlet of Oupia and the preponderance of old vines (along with the magic ingredient of 100 year-old Carignan vines) guarantees a succulent, intense and richly coloured ‘villages’ Minervois.

The intelligent use of even older vines and some new oak results in a stunning Cuvée des Barons with incredibly complex and intense fruit. The Minervois Blanc is made from 49% Marsanne and 49% Roussanne (with just a ‘touche’ of Viognier!), resulting in a particularly floral bouquet, soft peachy fruit and a lively, zesty acidity. Last, but by no means least, is Château d’Oupia is one of the region’s very finest estates. His hand-crafted, very limited selectionwhich he calls Nobilis is sourced from a very small parcel of 50 year-old vines situated on steep hillsides in the mountainous Beaufort zone and is almost opaque in colour, has an amazing texture and a formidably complex black-fruit complexity and velvety tannins.
